Role: Assistant Director of Studies
Reports to: Director of Studies
Location: Vancouver, BC (on-site)
Employment type: Short term, temporary Contract (May 20 to August 15, 2025)
Description:
ILSC Vancouver is looking for an Assistant Director of Studies (ADoS) to support the Director of Studies starting in May 20 to September 5, 2025. The position will be required to work 37.5 hours per week in-person, generally between 8am and 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Exact timings may be discussed with the manager.
Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Director of Studies (DoS), the ADoS will be responsible for assisting the DoS in the following areas:
ACADEMIC:
· Responsible for ongoing teacher recruitment, induction and mentorship
· Conducting regular classroom observations and performance reviews with teachers
· Planning room allocation and class selection each session
· Managing student advising and academic support
· Coordinating resources, including textbook and online component
· Coordinating with the DoS on academic KPIs
· Leading and facilitating teacher meetings & professional development sessions for teaching team
· Leading positive change management when needed
· Assisting with orientation and interviews with new students
· Coordinating across departments on student academic issues
ADMINISTRATION:
· Attending administration and academic meetings
· Arranging for leave coverage (vacation, sick, other)
· English Only Policy enforcement
· DoS coverage during leaves
· Support DoS in compliance & accreditation
OTHER:
· Actively upholding ILSC’s mission and vision
· Developing, fostering and instilling the ILSC philosophy with new staff
· Consistently conducting oneself in a professional manner. A warm, friendly, and supportive approach towards the clients of ILSC is needed so that each student/staff is made to feel cared for and welcomed.
· Maintenance of a safe, tidy, and organized work area
· Participation in public relations events
· Attending general staff and team meetings and training sessions as assigned
· Other duties as assigned
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:

Education and Experience Required:
· Undergraduate Degree TESOL qualifications or equivalent (Languages Canada Approved)
· Fluency in written and spoken English.
· Minimum 2 years’ experience in academic management in international education industry
· Minimum 3 years' teaching ELL adults, preferably abroad
· Demonstrated proficiency and familiarity with technology. Specifically, but not limited to: Microsoft Teams and Office Suite, student database systems, blended and hybrid classroom setups, and apps that support classroom learning
· Customer service experience
· Valid authorization to work in Canada is required
Additional Work Experience Preferred
· Cambridge Delta (complete or separate modules) OR related Masters' Degree
· Teacher training experience
· Experience with regulatory bodies, such as Languages Canada or PTIRU
· Having learned another language, preferably in a foreign environment
· Experience working in a unionised environment
