The Business Development Representative (BDR) will network with the International Longshore and Warehousemans Union members and their officials in support of our Branch location in Honolulu, Hawaii. This position assists in the ongoing development of the Credit Unions business scope, membership growth, community relations, and public relations programs. The BDR will Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with key officials and contacts within the ILWU community, with the goal of increasing membership and credit union opportunities; will conduct on-site promotions which may include presentations outlining our services and products and financial literacy programs; helps coordinate and oversee public relations efforts including branch grand openings, community involvement activities and special events. The BDR identifies and recommends opportunities to increase membership growth and profitability and makes recommendations to improve the products and services provided by the Credit Union.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop relationships with new clients to solicit new deposits; loan and other account relationships and increase the overall level of office or region business.
  • Retain and expand relationships with current clients and solicit new deposits, loans, and other account relationships.
  • Manage basic to moderately complex higher balance accounts with little or no supervision.
  • Implement and maintain the sales efforts required to maintain the Credit Unions organizational, financial, and operational goals. Identify, analyze and recommend sales and penetration approaches.
  • Maintain working relationships with key contacts within the Credit Union's membership base and non-members at the ILWU Locals that the Credit Union serves and can potentially serve.
  • Measure and analyze results of membership recruitment efforts and public relations activities and report status and areas for improvement.
  • Generate leads and information on potential prospects in the Credit Union's area of operations; initiate meetings with prospective ILWU officials to discuss the offering of Credit Union services as a benefit of credit union membership; provide officials with the requirements and benefits of the Credit Union and encourage officials to apply for membership.
  • Network and participate in special functions, such as training seminars, annual meetings, presentations and ILWU and Credit Union sponsored events.
  • Achieve specific business development goals; documents activities and prepares monthly reports for management. Works with management to plan business development opportunities.
  • Work with other departments in the Credit Union to ensure the new member onboarding process is completed. Refer cross-sales opportunities for loan and deposit accounts to the appropriate departments when necessary.
  • Work out in the field more than fifty percent of the time.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires an equivalent of a two-year college level of language, math and reasoning skills, and (3) three years related experience within a credit union environment to include the following:
    • Thorough knowledge of regulations affecting Credit Unions membership eligibility.
    • Working knowledge of regulations affecting advertising and Credit Unions products and services, policies, and procedures.
    • Working knowledge of sales, marketing, and cross-selling principles and techniques.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate from a sales and marketing perspective.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Superior organization and time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Working knowledge of English, spelling, grammar, composition, editing, proofing, and mathematics.
  • Must maintain confidentiality regarding Credit Union records and data.
  • Must be effective working independently.
  • Must be able and willing to travel 50% to 75% of the time to local islands and throughout Oahu.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and insurance with access to a reliable automobile.

Work Environment

Most work is performed at remote locations in the Port Complexes or Local 142 Union Halls. Some work will be performed at your home office or in an air-conditioned and heated office environment with exposure to basic office equipment and typical moderate office noise.

  • Ability to travel to make presentations on the Credit Unions behalf.
  • Ability to work flexible days and hours and occasional holidays and weekends.
