Overview: The Assistant Employee will assist the daycare staff in a supportive, non-hazardous capacity, following all labor laws related to minor employment. This position is intended to give young workers a first job experience and provide assistance with basic tasks and activities within the daycare environment. The Assistant Employee will work under close supervision to ensure their safety and development while supporting staff members with various age-appropriate tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Assistance:
  • Help organize and maintain classroom materials, ensuring that toys, books, and learning tools are tidy and accessible.
  • Assist with basic classroom chores, including setting up activity stations, cleaning up after activities, and ensuring the environment remains safe and organized.
  • Provide general support to children during activities, such as arts and crafts, outdoor play, or snack time, under the supervision of staff.

Child Interaction:

  • Engage with children in a positive and encouraging manner during playtime, fostering positive social interaction and helping with basic tasks like sharing and group activities.
  • Monitor children during breaks or transitions, ensuring they are following instructions and staying safe.
  • Provide assistance to children who may need help with simple tasks, such as putting on coats, washing hands, or cleaning up after themselves.

General Support:

  • Assist staff with light clerical duties, such as sorting paperwork or labeling classroom materials, as directed.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and order in shared spaces, including restrooms, hallways, and activity areas.
  • Provide additional support during special events, outdoor activities, or field trips, ensuring that all children are accounted for and engaged.

Health & Safety:

  • Follow safety protocols at all times, reporting any accidents or unsafe conditions immediately to a supervisor.
  • Assist staff with basic hygiene practices for children, such as handwashing, monitoring children during meals, and ensuring they follow good hygiene habits.
  • Ensure that any children under supervision are safe and properly attended to at all times.

Confidentiality & Professionalism:

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children’s personal information, health, and behavior.
  • Follow all daycare policies and adhere to the guidelines set forth by the facility.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and courtesy when interacting with children, parents, and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 14 years old.
  • No prior experience required, though an interest in working with children and a positive attitude are essential.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and take direction from staff members.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, patient attitude when interacting with children and staff.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to a supportive, safe, and engaging environment for children.
  • Must be able to adhere to work hours as determined by the daycare center and comply with any local labor regulations related to minor employees.

Working Conditions:

  • Call-in, Part-time or temporary, with flexible hours based on availability and local labor laws.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and lift light items (e.g., classroom materials, small children when necessary).
  • The Minor Employee will primarily assist in the classroom and common areas, supporting children and staff.

  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
  • Child Development Associate Certification (Preferred)
