What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cutting Tool Application Specialist position at IMCO Carbide Tool Inc.?
IMCO Carbide Tool is a recognized leader in advanced solid carbide cutting tool design. We are currently looking for a motivated, dynamic, customer-focused individual to joining our team and assist our customers with their carbide cutting tool applications. If you have experience or knowledge in programming CNC milling machines, particularly 5 axis machines, have extensive hands-on experience in milling with carbide round tools, and enjoy interacting with people, you may be a candidate for this position.
Essential Duties
The Carbide Cutting Tool Applications Specialist's primary responsibility is to perform necessary activities related to delivering application and technical support to our customers.
Some of the specific duties related to this position include, but are not limited to:
The position requires machining process knowledge. For example, what horsepower is required, spindle speeds, feed per tooth, etc., for varied machining processes. An understanding of common causes of tool breakage and how to overcome these causes.
This is a non-exempt, full-time position with an hourly wage range of $26 - $34.
Scheduled hours are 7:30a - 4:00p, Monday - Friday.

The Carbide Cutting Tool Applications Specialist's primary responsibility is to perform necessary activities related to delivering application and technical support to our customers.
Some of the specific duties related to this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in developing, communicating, implementing, and maintaining the company's application support plan.
- Give great application and technical support to our customers. This is defined as supplying the right information, delivered when it is needed, and communicated in the correct manner.
- Listen and respond to the product-support-related needs of our customers.
- Conduct research and engineering, as directed by the Vice President, on new and existing products
- Support Sales and Marketing open houses and product demonstration days by supplying test cut programs and operation of metalworking equipment.
- Educate and advise our customers on what is the best IMCO product to use for their machining application. Explain to them how to use it, including proper feeds and speeds for different materials. Help them solve their machining applications using IMCO tools.
The position requires machining process knowledge. For example, what horsepower is required, spindle speeds, feed per tooth, etc., for varied machining processes. An understanding of common causes of tool breakage and how to overcome these causes.
- Experience with 5-axis machining and/or Hermle experience is a plus.
- Ability to classify a material by its industry code (i.e. D2 steel) and have a machinist's knowledge of the metallurgy and machinability of that material.
- Proficient mechanical skills to perform required machining and technical support duties, including knowledge of CAD/CAM systems and drawing programs, blueprint reading, and use of common Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of cutting tool geometries and specifications. What the specs are on certain tools and why the tool is manufactured with those specs, including various coatings offered on cutting tools, what they are, and how they are applied to the machining process.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
This is a non-exempt, full-time position with an hourly wage range of $26 - $34.
