Position Overview
We are seeking a proactive Digital Accessibility Specialist to ensure digital content and technology comply with accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 A/AA, Section 508, and Colorado’s HB21-1110. This role combines technical remediation, staff training, and strategic communication to foster inclusivity across digital platforms for a public sector client.
Key Responsibilities
- Document Remediation: Audit and remediate PDFs, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files using CommonLook PDF and Adobe Acrobat to meet WCAG 2.1 A/AA and Section 508 standards.
- Training & Advocacy: Develop and deliver training programs for staff on accessibility best practices, including document remediation, inclusive design, and CMS accessibility.
- Compliance Strategy: Collaborate with the Digital Accessibility Manager to implement communication plans that align with HB21-1110 requirements.
- Audits & Risk Assessment: Conduct automated and manual accessibility audits using tools like Axe and WAVE, and review VPATs during procurement processes.
- Stakeholder Support: Address accessibility inquiries from staff, vendors, and stakeholders, providing solutions for digital resource access.
- Policy Implementation: Advise on Equally Effective Alternative Access Plans (EEAAPs) and undue burden documentation when full compliance is unfeasible.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year of hands-on experience with CommonLook PDF for document remediation.
- Proven ability to train staff on accessibility standards and tools.
- In-depth knowledge of WCAG 2.1 A/AA, Section 508, ADA, and HB21-1110 (Colorado’s accessibility law).
- Experience conducting accessibility audits and familiarity with testing tools (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver).
- Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and collaborate across teams (IT, design, content).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: CPACC, WAS, or equivalent accessibility certifications.
- Experience reviewing VPATs and supporting accessible procurement processes.
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress).
Salary : $50 - $65
