What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Project Designer 1 position at IMEG Corp.?
Structural Project Designer 1 for IMEG Consultants Corp for our Houston, TX loc. May telecommute up to 2 days/week and more frequently as necessary, after 1 month of fully in-person employment.
Lead design efforts as project [proj] manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projs & collab w/ senior staff for larger & higher complexity projs. Work w/ team to provide engineering solutions to clients. Engineering analysis, design & implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings & other structures.
Work w/i proj monetary budget; train, mentor & collab w/ cross-functional/multidisciplinary teams to meet proj goals & client expectations. Lead analysis & design of structural systems using variety of building materials; Utilize engineering software & tools to create detailed designs, specifications & calcs according to code requirements [reqs] & IMEG standards.
Interact w/ clients to understand their needs, gather proj reqs, & communicate technical info; Build & maintain client relationships. Work as part of proj team to support execution of consulting projs. Lead proj planning, budgeting, & scheduling tasks to meet proj deadlines & objectives.
Doc design decisions & instructions from clients while monitoring proj design progress as related to percent complete & fee expended. Analyze engineering problems & propose innovative solutions.
Collab w/ senior engineers & consultants to develop solutions. Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calcs & specifications; Implement quality control processes to ensure engineering designs & solutions meet IMEG quality/industry standards & client reqs.
Stay up to date w/ industry trends, emerging tech, & best practices in structural engineering. Contribute to research, development & innovation efforts. Prioritize safety.
ID proj problems & seek advice from PM. Oversee projects thru bidding, design, & construction admin phases.
Little travel within state and region may be involved to job sites and attend meetings (up to 60 days/yr, length of a single trip not to exceed 5 days) which involves limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 lbs. Occasionally required to kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.
Must have Bachelor’s in Engineering (Civil, Structural, or Architectural) or related field; 3 years relevant exp in building design consulting industry; and required skills. Alternatively, must have Associate’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, or Architectural)
or related field; 7 years relevant exp in building design consulting industry; and required skills.
Alternatively, must have Certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering or related field; 7 years relevant exp in building design consulting industry; and required skills. Requires skills (3 yrs exp) in: design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in production of technical plans and specifications; principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards (including steel, concrete, wood, masonry) and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures; standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software (Finite Element Modeling software for designing structures with concrete or steel analysis); BIM software; MS Word; MS Excel.
