Role Overview
The Mechatronics Engineer is responsible for leading all Electrical/Electronics engineering efforts within the IMI Farmington manufacturing operations, focusing on automation, process optimization, and new product development. The role involves designing, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting electronic circuits, components, and assemblies, as well as developing software for test fixtures, data acquisition, and embedded systems. As the sole Mechatronics Engineer, this role will play a key part in HSE improvements, productivity enhancements, and technical support across multiple departments.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead all electrical engineering efforts, acting as the primary technical expert for electrical, Electronics and automation projects.
• Design, prototype, and troubleshoot complex electronic circuits, components, and assemblies for new and existing products.
• Develop and integrate embedded software for electrical and mechanical component interaction.
• Design and implement automation and control systems to optimize manufacturing efficiency, quality, and safety.
• Develop software for test fixtures, data acquisition systems, and graphical user interfaces using Altium, LabVIEW, Visual Studio, C/C , PLC Programming or similar platforms.
• Set up and execute testing and validation to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
• Apply DFM (Design for Manufacturability) principles to improve production efficiency and support New Product Introduction (NPI).
• Maintain detailed design documentation, including schematics, test reports, and functional specifications.
• Generate and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to support design revisions and sustain existing products.
• Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve electrical and automation challenges.
• Stay updated on industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ICE, CE, EMI, EMC, RoHS compliance).
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to enhance efficiency and reliability.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers and cross-functional teams in Electrical/Electronics design and automation.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience:
◦ BSEE or MSEE in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
◦ 5 years of experience in electrical design, automation, and system integration within a manufacturing environment.
◦ Experience working independently as the sole Mechatronics engineer is highly preferred.
Technical Expertise:
◦ Strong knowledge of PCB layout, schematic capture tools, circuit analysis, and simulation software.
◦ Hands-on experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and real-time programming.
◦ Proficiency in LabVIEW, Visual Studio, C/C , PLC, NI and automation programming.
◦ Expertise in motors, solenoids, motion control, and electromechanical devices.
◦ Experience with test equipment, data acquisition, and industrial control systems.
Problem-Solving & Leadership:
◦ Ability to take full ownership of electrical engineering projects, from concept to execution.
◦ Strong analytical skills to develop innovative solutions for automation, HSE improvements, and productivity.
◦ Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
◦ Excellent communication skills to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and leadership teams.
