The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all aspects of jobsite management and construction progress in accordance with project plans and specifications. This position ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and company standards. The Superintendent collaborates closely with clients, architects, subcontractors, field personnel, and office staff. Depending on the project, the Superintendent may lead as the primary site supervisor or work under the direction of a General Superintendent.
Primary Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise labor crew foremen, field crews, and subcontractors.
- Fulfill staffing requirements in alignment with the construction schedule.
- Ensure availability of materials, tools, equipment, and labor to meet project timelines.
- Consult with and direct subcontractors and self-perform trades in planning and executing work.
- Coordinate various project phases to ensure on-time delivery of milestones.
- Build and manage relationships with project stakeholders, including owners, architects, inspectors, and engineers.
- Lead and document project changes as necessary.
- Inspect ongoing work to ensure conformance to project specifications and timelines.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to forecast and plan upcoming construction phases.
- Promote and enforce job site safety practices, policies, and regulations for all site workers and subcontractors.
- Report all safety incidents, violations, injuries, and near-misses in accordance with company policy.
- Ensure site compliance with Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), controlled access, hazardous waste handling, and other regulatory requirements.
- Chair and document weekly foreman meetings covering topics such as safety, owner feedback, materials, scheduling, and compliance.
- Create and maintain 3–4-week Gantt schedules.
- Complete daily progress reports and crew timesheets.
- Track labor productivity and submit material and equipment usage reports.
- Conduct and report weekly jobsite safety audits.
- Generate and manage RFIs (Requests for Information) and communicate resolutions.
- Liaise with union representatives regarding labor matters.
- Collect, verify, and submit trade employee new hire documentation.
- Receive and verify materials on-site.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation
- Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- OSHA 30 Certification (required within 90 days of employment).
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum of 4 years experience in a superintendent role and in a retail construction environment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) required.
- Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management software preferred.
- Comfortable using technology (e.g., tablets) and accessing information online.
