The E.D. will be continually motivated to develop new and unique opportunities to advance the mission. This will require recognizing emerging trends and adapting the agency to meet the associated challenges. S / he will be a strong communicator and collaborator with a demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility. The new leader should have experience and agility in meeting and cultivating relationships with individuals and groups that enhance CMS’ mission and service on behalf of migrants and refugees.

S / he will work proactively with the Board of Trustees and the CMS team to raise the funds necessary to support the organization’s mission and capitalize on growth opportunities, inspire engagement and partnership with other like-minded donors, supporters, and partners and play a lead role in resource development. The E.D. will exhibit deep social justice values and competencies, including a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities :

  • Conceptualize, strategically plan, develop, and sustain CMS’ publications, educational events, data-related tools, research initiatives, and other work that reflects CMS’ mission and identity.
  • Serve as the public face of the agency through writing, public speaking, media work, engagement with government officials, policymakers, and coalitions, and cultivation of partner agencies and partner funders.
  • Advocate for public policies that safeguard the dignity and rights of migrants, refugees, and newcomers.
  • Oversee CMS’ staff, consultants, advisory groups, and editorial boards, including editors of the International Migration Review and the Journal on Migration and Human Security.
  • Ensure maintenance of and access to the Archive of historical records and collections.
  • Ensure sound corporate governance through adherence to financial, administrative, and personnel policies, including preparation of the annual plan and budget for approval by the Board of Trustees and the Corporate Board as well as management of the annual audit.
  • Lead – in partnership with its board – CMS’ resource development efforts.

Qualifications :

  • Hold an advanced university degree.
  • Demonstrate experience, expertise, and standing in the field of international migration.
  • Have superb written and verbal communication skills.
  • A track record of significant management and administrative experience and the ability to spend substantial time working in the New York City office.
  • A bedrock commitment to working with migrants, refugees, Catholic and Scalabrini agencies as well as alignment with Catholic social teaching on immigration are required.
