What are the responsibilities and job description for the Impact Upward Bound Math Instructor (Part-time/Temporary) position at Impact Educational and Housing Development?
Upward Bound is an academic support program funded by the Department of Education. Upward Bound provides the necessary support for economically disadvantaged and/or first-generation high school students to complete high school, enroll in college, and successfully obtain a four-year college degree.
Impact Upward Bound provides instruction to UB scholars to help prepare them for the upcoming academic year, state testing, and national standardized tests. Upward Bound instructors are to report to the Project Director for providing challenging academic instruction to project participants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Instruct high school students in conjunction with state standards.
- Implement lesson plans for the class sessions using Chalktalk platform and collected lesson plans.
- Confer with the Director and staff to discuss program goals and course objectives.
- Develop and deliver a curriculum that addresses course objectives.
- Utilize innovative classroom techniques and methodologies that involve students in challenging learning opportunities.
- Attend faculty meetings to formatively evaluate student progress and determine student improvement strategies.
- Complete summative evaluations highlighting students’ strengths and needs.
- Submit curriculum evaluation to improve program services.
· Maintain a safe environment for all students.
· Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, including meeting required deadlines, attending staff orientation/meetings as scheduled, and implementing instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
Hours:
Primarily evenings during the week, and during scheduled academic sessions. Hours can also include tutoring after school.
Location:
In-person Academic Sessions, tutoring virtually, and/or in person at target schools (Baker High School & Belaire High School)
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required and must be certified by the State of Louisiana to teach at the high school level in your certified subject areas (core subjects)
Experience:
· Experience providing instruction in a classroom setting.
· Preferred: Working with high school students in an educational setting
· Preferred: Life experience with barriers similar to those from TRIO target populations, including but not limited to being a member of an underrepresented education, being a first-generation college student, or being from a low-income family.
Required Skills:
· Knowledge of effective instructional methods and practices
· Ability to develop assessments and monitor student progress.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Effective team member and team builder
· Proficient in Google Apps, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
