Job Overview
Our company is employee owned, healthy, and growing quickly. We are one of the largest wholesale distributors of souvenirs to tourist destinations. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to oversee our accounting department and ensure the accuracy of our financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles and practices, with a focus on financial reporting, financial analysis, and compliance with GAAP. This role is critical in maintaining the financial health of our organization and will involve collaboration with various departments to provide insights that drive strategic decisions. This position reports to the CFO.
Duties:
Staff Management and Interaction:
- Direct oversight of staff doing accounting data entry, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll/HR staff.
- Work with key managers and supervisors to field accounting-related questions relative to their positions and give direction to the needed staff.
- Interacts with executives, including the CEO and COO.
Financial Reporting:
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process within Acumatica, ensuring timely and accurate financial statement generation.
- Utilize Acumatica's reporting capabilities to create detailed financial reports and analysis for key stakeholders.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential risks.
- Working directly with Impact’s CPA firm and auditors to generate annual financial reports.
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and general ledger within the Acumatica system.
- Ensure proper coding and posting of transactions in accordance with accounting standards.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls within Acumatica to safeguard company assets.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Work with CFO to create forecast and budget models.
- Collaborate with department heads to develop comprehensive budgets and financial forecasts using Acumatica's budgeting tools.
- Monitor budget performance against actual results, identifying areas for cost optimization.
System Administration:
- Act as a key user and administrator of Acumatica, including user access management, system configuration, and data integrity.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance efficiency through Acumatica features.
- Compliance and Audit Support:
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting regulations and standards.
- Coordinate with external auditors to facilitate smooth audit processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
- Proven experience as a Controller, with a strong understanding of accounting principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Acumatica ERP system a plus, but can be learned.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work with cross-functional teams.
- 4-6 years of management experience in an accounting department or CPA firm
