What are the responsibilities and job description for the IMPACT Soccer Coach position at IMPACT Silver Spring?
Position overview:
IMPACT Soccer Coaches will contribute to the mission of the IMPACT Sports program, which is to offer high-quality recreational sports and enrichment for low-income families, promote individual growth, strengthen neighborhood connections, and foster systemic change by eliminating financial barriers to access. IMPACT Soccer Coaches will be effective leaders with excellent communication and youth development skills, committed to community-driven solutions through soccer.
Key Deliverables:
- Plan and coach training sessions to develop specific soccer skills, game understanding, character development, and physical fitness.
- Provide a safe and fun environment for the players.
- Build trusting relationships with parents and guardians, and be in charge of communication with parents and guardians.
- Develop a formation and style of play that reflects the goals of the team and player development.
- Implement age, experience and playing level appropriate training.
- Be responsible for team selection for each game.
- Lead appropriate pre-game, half-time and post-game instruction to the team emphasizing skills, tactics, and character development.
- Motivate and support players to achieve their best on and off the field.
- Maintain consistent communication with the Sports Program Manager and Assistant Sports Program Manager to ensure the sports program operates as efficiently as possible.
- Manage and transport equipment for the team, including balls, cones, and pinnies.
- Be available to coach for all necessary practices and games, with practices held on weekday evenings and games held on Saturdays.
Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of experience coaching soccer, or 5 years of playing competitive soccer.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, build trust, and foster relationships across diverse communities.
- Experience working with marginalized populations and a deep understanding of the unique challenges they face.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team in a dynamic environment, responding effectively to shifting priorities and community needs.
- Passionate commitment to racial and economic equity, with knowledge of systemic inequities and strategies to address them through community-based initiatives.
- Have received a background check to be able to work with youth.
- Bilingualism in English and Spanish is heavily preferred.
Salary and Benefits
This is a part-time position, at around 10 hours per week. Most hours will be spent on the field during both practices and games, with occasional coaching trainings and meetings.
