This job performs microscopic screening and diagnosis of gynecological and miscellaneous specimens. It also assists in collecting and preparing fine needle aspiration specimens, performs ancillary prep, clerical, and quality control duties when needed, enters negative gynecological results into a computer, participates in on-site cytology and other continuing education opportunities, and maintains confidentiality of patient-related information.

Education
Required -Bachelor’s degree
Graduation from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation accredited school of cytotechnologist or other organization approved by Health and Human Services or Certified in cytotechnologist by a certification agency approved by HHS (e.g., American Society of Clinical Pathologists).
Work Experience
Required -None.
Certifications
Required –C.T. (ASCP) registered.
Louisiana CYT license or eligible.

Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
