The Business Systems Analyst acts as a liaison between various business functions and the development team to ensure the successful delivery and support of technical applications and solutions. The Business Systems Analyst produces documentation including business and system process flows, business requirement specifications, user stories, conceptual and logical data models and report mockups. The Business Systems Analyst reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs to formulate systems strategies to parallel overall business strategies.

  • Responsible for gathering and documenting detailed requirements, designing feature-based systems, and supporting the development life cycle
  • Assure that business requirements have been met for quality assurance purposes
  • Responsible for supporting multiple development projects simultaneously and having a working knowledge of the systems development life cycle
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts, internal and external customers, and development organization in developing, documenting and representing customer / product requirements to gain their approval of functionality
  • Effectively deal with scope on an agile project by understanding the breadth and depth of the solution and articulate to the team for estimating and release planning
  • Facilitate discussion between the Product Team, QA and technical team throughout the SDLC and Agile development process
  • Utilize collaborative requirements gathering techniques to assist the team in incrementally defining requirements using user stories
  • Participate in product development cycle by attending daily standups, product backlog grooming sessions, sprint story demos, technical reviews, and QA test case review
  • Advocate for the business, technology and product needs; resolving conflicts to provide the best solution for the company overall

  • Preferably located in Syracuse, NY.
  • At least 2 years' experience as a Business Systems Analyst.
  • Bachelor's degree, Minimum 2 years as a technical business analyst across multiple projects, including but not limited to gathering detailed requirements, designing feature-based systems, and supporting the software development life cycle.
  • Innovative, analytical, thinker to develop conceptual informatics solutions to problems and integration into other information systems, internally and externally.
  • Experience using tools for agile software development teams such as Jira for the management of user stories, and Visio for workflow and process modeling.
  • Ability to multi-task and react positively to multiple priorities and demands on time.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; Skilled in liaison activities; Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with multiple software development life cycle methodologies (including 2 years of Agile) and requirements' documentation approaches (features, user stories, domain models, logical data models).
  • Willingness to take initiative, be creative & flexible, and to be able to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Able to work effectively and collegially with colleagues from a wide range of roles and backgrounds.
  • Experience working on multiple project types (off the shelf software implements, new development, and enhancements / support).
  • Experience working in multiple business areas within a company to see overlapping functions and interdepartmental dependencies.
  • Business analysis planning experience thinking through the people, project, and process to outline the tasks and deliverables needed for the project, to estimate their time needed, as well as the time of the stakeholders involved.
  • Strategic thinker that sees the bigger picture before heading into the details understands where the project fits in with the organizational goals, are aware of how the project they are assigned to impacts other projects or business areas.
  • Ability to learn new domains by leveraging research, networking and personal experience.
