Position Overview

The Development Director is a highly motivated and articulate person who will lead and execute comprehensive stewardship and revenue strategies. As the chief revenue generator, this key leadership role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan to support our mission. The Development Director will be instrumental in ensuring that Hedgebrook continues to provide vital resources to the women we support, enabling them to make a significant impact through their work. An ideal candidate will be able to work in-person on the land at Hedgebrook on Whidbey Island 2-3 days / week and prepared to travel to various locations to nurture relationships with donors across the U.S.

Qualifications

The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required to fulfill this role :

Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field.

Minimum of 6 years experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and special events. $600K annually raised

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and marketing materials.

Strong leadership and management skills, with experience managing a team of fundraising professionals.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, Board members, donors and volunteers.

Experience with fundraising software and donor databases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations.

Build and maintain long-term relationships with donors, ensuring regular and meaningful communication.

Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization's annual revenue goals.

Identify and cultivate major gift prospects, as well as corporate and foundation donors.

Serve as the main point of contact in partnering with event strategists and consultants to plan and execute special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization.

Collaborate with the Communications and Programs team to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials.

Work in close partnership with the Executive Director to ensure strategy and execution are successful.

Work closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to develop fundraising strategies and goals. Specifically working proactively and autonomously on behalf of the organization while collaborating with the ED.

Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • 2 team members and related consultant(s).

Work Environment / Physical Demands

This position is based at the Hedgebrook Farm on Whidbey Island, Washington. The successful candidate must be able to travel to Hedgebrook and locations throughout the Puget Sound area, and also travel to other locations 3-4 times per year as required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Candidates willing to relocate will be considered.

The physical demands include, but are not limited to, standing, squatting, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, bending and being on their feet for long periods.

  • Salary : $110,000 - $130,000
