Title: Health Promotion Educator

Location: Hybrid – Santa Barbara, CA

Duration: Estimated end date of 7/31/25

Pay Rate: $35-$36 per hour

Description: The position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining health education functions aimed at improving the overall health status of members and addressing health disparities. It involves supporting the integration of health promotion and education within the Quality Department's various business units to ensure collaborative efforts that enhance membership care. The role contributes to advancing the Health Promotion Program, focusing on improving population health and achieving health equity. Key responsibilities include developing innovative health promotion interventions, overseeing Performance Improvement Projects (PIPs), and managing health promotion initiatives tailored to specific populations. The position also involves participation in various staff committees and leading teams as needed. Internal contacts include the Director of Quality, Population Health Supervisors, Medical Directors, and IT staff, while external contacts include community-based organizations, primary care providers, specialists, and provider office staff.

What You Will Do:

• Develop health education resources and distribute written materials for targeted member education to strategically conduct targeted health promotion to achieve quality improvement. Participate as needed in community health events to provide health information and resources to targeted communities.
• Fulfill specific member health education requests from the website and the Health Education Request Phone Line. Respond to internal requests for health education materials or other resources from other departments.
• Provide resources to physicians and health professionals in the provider network; conduct periodic presentations and trainings
• Provide key support in the annual Population Needs Assessment (Client) and Client Action Plan
• Maintain web site health education resources, and create and edit website content for providers and members
• Assist with the routine member newsletter, including: write and edit articles, create member mailing lists, and other tasks associated with newsletter production
• Conduct readability testing on all health education written materials utilized by the health plan, including literacy testing, clinical review, cultural and linguistic review, and field-testing. Maintain an inventory of approved materials.
• Participate as needed in community health events to provide health information and resources to targeted communities
• Other duties as assigned

What You Will Bring:

• Master's Degree in Public Health with a health education or health promotion emphasis, or a Master's Degree in Community Health with a specialization in health education or health promotion, or certification as a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES)
• Minimum three (3) years' experience in health education
• Experience working with Medicaid or limited-literacy populations
• Knowledge of health behavior theory and health promotion principles and methods to effectively outreach to the Medi-Cal/Medicaid membership
• Knowledge of health education principles, methods, materials and resources to improve population health
• Knowledge of health literacy and methods for readability testing of written materials and developing culturally and linguistically appropriate resources
• Bilingual in Spanish – preferred
