About the Role:
The Systems Engineer – AWS will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure solutions within Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role requires expertise in infrastructure automation, security best practices, cloud networking, and DevOps methodologies. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize cloud infrastructure, automate deployments, and ensure compliance with federal security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and maintain scalable, high-availability AWS environments using EC2, RDS, S3, EBS, ELB, and IAM.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and manage AWS resources using Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible for automated provisioning and configuration.
- Security & Compliance: Implement cloud security best practices, including IAM policies, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), role-based access control (RBAC), and encryption to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
- CI/CD Pipeline Management: Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jenkins, and AWS CodePipeline to automate deployments and infrastructure changes.
- Cloud Networking & Connectivity: Configure and troubleshoot VPCs, subnets, security groups, VPNs, and AWS Direct Connect to optimize network performance and security.
- Monitoring & Optimization: Utilize AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Log Insights to track system health, troubleshoot issues, and improve resource efficiency.
- Server Configuration & Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, and YAML to enhance cloud operations.
- Disaster Recovery & Backup Solutions: Implement AWS backup and disaster recovery strategies, including S3 lifecycle policies, AWS Backup, and snapshot automation.
- Cross-Cloud & Hybrid Cloud Operations: Support hybrid cloud environments and integrations between AWS, Azure, and on-premise infrastructure.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to ensure AWS solutions align with business and security requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in cloud engineering, systems administration, or DevOps, with a focus on AWS environments.
- Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (Preferred) or equivalent AWS certification.
- Automation & DevOps Expertise: Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, GitHub, and CI/CD tools for cloud automation and deployment.
- Security & Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with AWS Security Hub, IAM, encryption, and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST, DoD security standards).
- Networking & Load Balancing: Proficiency in configuring AWS VPCs, Route 53, CloudFront, ELB, and networking best practices.
- Multi-Cloud & Hybrid Cloud Knowledge: Experience working in multi-cloud and hybrid environments integrating AWS, Azure, and on-premise infrastructure.
- Scripting & Automation: Strong skills in PowerShell, Bash, Python, and JSON/YAML for automating deployments and system management.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting federal agencies or DoD cloud environments.
- Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda, Kubernetes (EKS), and containerized workloads.
- Knowledge of cloud cost optimization strategies using AWS Cost Explorer and Trusted Advisor.
