IMS Correctional Healthcare Overview: IMS Correctional Healthcare, LLC (“IMS”) is a correctional healthcare services company focused on providing medical care services to county and municipal correctional facilities in North Carolina. IMS serves county correctional facilities that typically range from 100 – 1,000 bed capacity and differentiates itself based on its level of customer service, quality care, clinical outcomes and overall operational transparency to the customers it serves.

Objectives & Responsibilities:
IMS is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its healthcare team at the Haywood County, NC Jail, located at 1620 Brown Ave, Waynesville, NC 28786, and assist the supervising physician in providing care to inmates. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for the following:

  • Promote a therapeutic environment to ensure inmates are treated in a professional, ethical and tactful manner.
  • Conduct, attitude, and demeanor are to always be professional and demonstrate compassion and concern for every inmate. Additionally, all communications with correctional staff are to be professional.
  • Plan, organize, monitor, implement, and document nursing and medical care services, identifying interventions for inmate medical needs.
  • Perform preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations, and care.
  • Perform chronic care, sick call, and urgent care services as needed.
  • Write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Records must be clear and accurate.
  • Educate patients on plans for care, preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Provide treatment on-site and respond appropriately in emergency situations, including referrals to specialists and hospitals.
  • Verify all prescription medication history with PCP or pharmacy as necessary.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality as it relates to federal and state health information and privacy laws.
  • Follow and uphold proper protocols, procedures, and security measures laid forth by correctional staff at all times in the workplace. This includes meeting cleanliness standards for the unit.
  • Where necessary, act as an educational resource for correctional staff to ensure all medical requirements and restrictions are understood.
  • Other medical related duties as recommended by the supervising physician.

In the event that additional staff are hired to join the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse may be responsible for assisting with training, supervising, and ensuring each individual follows all proper workplace procedures within the scope of the practice.

Education & Certifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state
  • Current CPR certification

Experience:

  • Minimum of one years' experience preferred
  • Prior correctional/detention facility experience preferred

Compensation:

  • $29 - $34/hour
  • Hourly wage rate to be commensurate with experience
  • Health and retirement benefits provided
