Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
The Direct Support Professional I plays a vital role in ensuring that services are provided within the established standards of the department and agency. This includes a commitment to, and respect for, individuals being served, their family members, and the agency's mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals in the program.
- Complete Residential Habilitation documentation promptly and implement staff service actions accordingly.
- Provide nutritious meals based on the house menu, encouraging individuals to participate in shopping and food preparation.
- Perform daily routines related to chores, housekeeping, maintenance of ADL kits, and active treatment.
- Implement community integration and involvement based on Residential Habilitation plans.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and respect in the residence.
- Address crisis situations and medical emergencies according to agency policy.
- Administer medications as assigned after completing medication administration training.
- Assist with personal care and health-related needs while adhering to guidance from supervisors and the nursing department.
- Maintain residence files and inventories as needed.
- Implement Behavioral Management progress and practices.
- Represent the agency positively to other staff, agencies, the community, service providers, and online platforms.
- Comply with state and federal regulations.
- Transport individuals to medical appointments, lab work, and activities tailored to their interests.
Dress Code:
All Direct Support Professionals are expected to wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear and avoid clothing that is excessively tight, short, or revealing.
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform tasks and duties deemed necessary by the supervisor.
- Work beyond scheduled hours to ensure adequate staff coverage, including overtime and shift changes.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED is required; an associate degree is preferred.
- No experience is required, but one year of related experience is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- A valid NYS driver's license with a driving record meeting In Flight, Inc.'s insurer standards is required.
- The employee must complete various agency trainings, including crisis intervention and prevention training, Medication Administration, PR/First Aid, Driver Certification, and Behavior Management.
