The In-N-Out Burger Human Resources team has an excellent opportunity for a Human Resources Specialist, located in the Irvine, CA office*.
As the primary administrator for the pre-employment background screening process, the HR Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the workflow of background reports. They will be relied upon to utilize sound judgment and discretion to provide hiring managers with recommendations related to candidate selection, consistent with company policies and applicable employment laws.
The HR Specialist will also be responsible for preparing Associate file reviews, assist with responding to unemployment claims and coordinating unemployment hearings. They may be tasked with working on other projects as assigned. Given their contact with individuals from outside of the company, working on highly sensitive situations, it is critical that this individual display a professional demeanor in all personal contact and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
This role is based full time in office
General Responsibilities
- Manages the external and internal pre-employment background screening process. Responsible for the timely review, processing and work flow disposition of all background check reports and disclosures for existing employees and applicants. Sends legal notices, conducts individualized assessments as needed, communicates report results, applies standard criteria for candidate screening to provide managers recommendations for hiring decisions consistent with company policy and employment laws.
- Oversees and administrates the Fair Chance process. Responsible for timely review of disclosures, conducts individualized assessments as needed, communicates results, applies standard criteria for candidate screening to manager and provides recommendations for hiring decision. Oversees the distribution of region assignments and trains new Human Resources Generalists on the process.
- Compiles information from Associate records and prepares file reviews for manager promotions, development and counseling.
- Assist as needed with timely and accurate responses to unemployment claims.
- Acts as primary point of contact for ASL requests and vendor contacts
- Generate, compile and organize data, information and resources for various projects and reports for Operations and the HR Department.
Work Schedule and Benefits
- Full-time position, Non-Exempt
- Office Hours in Irvine, CA: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm
- Department needs will call for occasional overtime

- Hourly Pay Range: $28.00 - $33.00

Qualifications
- 1-2 years' experience in Human Resources
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration
- Human Resources Certificate Preferred
- Knowledge of federal, and state laws and regulations.
- Compliance and/or background process experience is highly preferred.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, Slack, and Asana.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently, prioritize workflow, meet deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-moving environment.
- Ability to interact positively with internal and external audiences and provide guidance within all levels of management and staff.
