Machining Project Estimator responsible for customer interface, evaluating project requirements, preparing proposals, and closing sales. This role serves as the primary resource for customers and internal personnel, with a strong emphasis on project quoting and estimating.
Key Responsibilities
Project Quoting & Estimating
- Gather comprehensive technical information from customers to develop accurate quotes
- Formulate detailed cost estimates including labor, travel, freight, materials, and consumables
- Work with subject matter experts to determine appropriate technical solutions and methodologies
- Prepare formal written proposals including technical approach, pricing, and timeline
- Review and revise proposals based on customer feedback
- Follow up with customers to secure purchase orders
Customer Interface
- Qualify prospective customers and evaluate project requirements
- Identify equipment specifications, surface finish requirements, tolerances, and technical parameters
- Determine environmental conditions and physical constraints that may impact project execution
- Serve as the primary communication point throughout project lifecycle
- Provide continuous updates to customers on project progress
Project Management
- Communicate project details to internal teams (Engineering, Technical Process Managers, Technicians)
- Coordinate scheduling with customers and internal resources
- Update pricing estimates in real-time based on field conditions or scope changes
- Facilitate project close-out and invoice review
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business preferred; 2-year technical degree required
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in a related role
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Experience in mechanical or machining environment preferred
- Project management experience preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Office and shop environment with occasional site visits
- Travel up to 20% (domestic and international)
- Valid driver's license required
- OSHA 10 certification required
