Job Title: Camp Nurse
Reports to: Summer Camp Director
Incarnation Camp is a traditional sleep-away summer camp located in Ivoryton (Essex) CT on a beautiful 700-acre property with mile-long private lake.
IC is an independent not-for-profit organization. Our overnight camp is open to children ages 7-15 and has the distinction of being the oldest and longest continuously running co-ed summer camp in the United States. Since 1886, our mission has been to provide programs designed to engage campers in nurturing their physical and emotional growth. Through recreation, sports, nature, and arts programs, we create an atmosphere where campers can explore their interests while building character and friendships. Our campers and staff are a diverse group of people coming from all over the U.S.- and all around the world.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
Mid June - Mid August (9 weeks total)
Scheduled workdays range from 8:00 a.m. through 9:30 p.m. with time off throughout the day, the final schedule is dependent on the successful applicant's availability. The role comes with a competitive summer salary, a fully equipped and air-conditioned health center, free summer lodging with a private bedroom for on-call nights, or full summer housing if required. Free meals whilst on the property are provided, along with free laundry service and on-site machines, a physician on call and access to Urgent Care and Hospital within 10-15 minutes, use of all camp facilities, and pleasant working conditions in a team environment.
Summary: To oversee the health and safety of camper participants and staff by operating the Health Center, administering medications, treating illness and injuries, and acting as a liaison to parents, camp staff, and health providers. Processing all medications and supplies related to all off-site programs such as trips, treks, and all-day adventures.
Job responsibilities:
- Dispensing medication and giving attention to non-emergency health needs.
- Acting as a liaison between Incarnation Camp and parents regarding health needs and relevant paperwork prior to camper arrival.
- Putting together medkits with camper medications for overnight and day trips.
- Maintaining inventory and order medical supplies and equipment.
- Reviewing and organizing health and immunization reports provided by campers. Inform camp staff of relevant health information. Enter information in appropriate databases or other formats.
- Creating and replenishing First Aid kits for program staff.
- Ensuring the health and safety of campers and staff.
- Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of health center treatment area and equipment.
- Being on duty on a rotating basis.
- Making sure that directors are informed of any severe camper or staff illnesses or injuries.
- Maintaining health center records including, but not limited to; treatment logs, medication logs, accident/incident reports, and any required documentation for the State of CT.
- Communicating with parents, local doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies.
- Making doctor appointments for any campers and staff who require them.
Qualifications:
- 21 years of age or older
- Degree in Nursing or equivalent
- Current Nursing Certifications: RN, APRN, or NP (In the state of Connecticut is preferred)
- Practical experience as a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician's Assistant.
- Strong communication skills
- First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
- Strong people skills; good team player
- Able to work flexible hours in a summer camp setting
- Summer camp, pediatrics, or school nursing experience is a plus
