Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team. This role involves supporting attorneys and project teams in managing the legal aspects of construction projects, ensuring compliance, and mitigating risks. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction laws and processes, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contract Review and Drafting:
- Prepare, review, and manage contracts for construction projects, including agreements with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements and identify potential issues.
- Legal Research:
- Conduct research on construction laws, regulations, building codes, zoning laws, and licensing requirements to support litigation, contract disputes, or regulatory matters.
- Document Management:
- Organize and maintain files related to construction projects, including contracts, change orders, permits, inspection reports, and invoices.
- Dispute Resolution Support:
- Assist in preparing documents for arbitration, mediation, or litigation in construction disputes such as breaches of contract, payment issues, or construction defects.
- Manage evidence and exhibits for dispute resolution processes.
- Compliance Monitoring:
- Ensure construction activities comply with local, state, and federal laws, including safety regulations (e.g., OSHA), labor laws, and environmental guidelines.
- Claims and Liens:
- Assist with the preparation and filing of mechanic’s liens, payment bond claims, and other documents related to unpaid contractors, subcontractors, or suppliers.
- Permit and Licensing Coordination:
- Track and secure necessary permits and licenses for construction projects, including zoning and environmental clearances.
- Project Timeline and Budget Tracking:
- Monitor key project dates, such as deadlines for contract performance.
- Assist with tracking project costs, timelines, and delays or claims for extensions.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Act as a liaison between attorneys, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure all parties are informed and coordinated throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a paralegal, preferably in construction law or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of construction laws, contracts, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent research, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in legal software and document management systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
