Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs waived and/or moderately complex clinical laboratory tests and analyses of human blood, urine, and other body fluids to obtain data for use in the diagnosis, management and treatment of disease and injury: specific areas of accountability may include one or more of the following disciplines: prenatal blood tests, chemistry/immunoassay, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, immunology, toxicology and/or urinalysis.
NOTE: we may hire a MLT at level I or level II: dependent on skills, education and certification
Schedule: Day Shift, varies and Tuesday - Saturday, rotate weekends/holidays as needed
You Will:
- Proficient with Clinical Laboratory Assistant II duties.
- Operate and maintain standard lab instruments and equipment.
- Perform, analyze, interprete, and confirm tests.
- Perform manual testing.
- Report test results by electronic systems.
- Monitor, control and assess ongoing test conditions, specimen quality, chemical and biological reactions, and instrument function.
- Correlate quantitative, biochemical, physiologic and morphologic data to verify results.
- Strive proficiency with new analyzers and procedures.
- Ensure the accuracy of test results based on strict adherence to established standards, procedures and regulatory requirements for test analysis, quality control, and quality assurance.
- Follow all safety and bloodborne pathogen/infection control guidelines and regulations for specimen handling and chemical use.
- Keep current on regulatory requirements.
- Participate in committees and task forces as needed
- Ability to take rotating call during nights and weekends.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Certifications
Level I
- High School Graduate or equivalent and present proof to one of the following:
- 50-week military training as a Medical Lab Specialist, or
- Documentation of training appropriate to testing performed. Training must assure skills for:
- specimen collection, labeling, preparation, etc.: implementing laboratory procedures & performing assigned tests
- conducting preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration
- knowledge of reagent stability and storage
- implementing quality control (QC) procedures
- knowledge of factors influencing test results
- validating patient test results with QC before reporting
- Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology or laboratory science, preferred
Level II
- Associate degree in medical laboratory technology or laboratory science and pass the MLT Generalist examination or,
- Complete a US military course in medical laboratory procedures, earn the laboratory technician occupation specialty, and pass the MLT Generalist Exam.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological science preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Level I: must have 3 years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory assistant II experience in Chemistry/Immunoassay, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Banking, Serology, Microbiology, and/or Clinical Microscopy.
- Level II: must have 5 years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience (as identified in level I)

- Familiarity with Quality programs, processes, and tools
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with various levels of. management and Laboratory and Hospital professions
- Self-directed, open to new learning experiences: ability to multitask while maintaining quality and efficiency.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Pay Range: $23.12 - $36.13 USD Hourly (dependent on skills, education and certification)
The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Generally, new hire offers will be between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on experience (DOE), with the ability to grow within the range over time.
