Independence Community College (ICC) seeks applications for the position of Part-time Success Coach for the Upward Bound Program. Position Summary
The Part-time Success Coach for Upward Bound is responsible for assisting with site visits, providing in-person or virtual tutoring to project participants (high school students at 5 Southeast Kansas high schools, grades 9-12) in English, Math, and/or Science, and reaching out to project participants with struggling grades. This is 10-month (Sept-June) position, typically 10-12 hours a week with at least one day/8 of those hours being in-person.
Compensation
$14-20 per hour, dependent on qualifications and number of subjects willing to tutor
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Education or a subject related to English, Math, or Science preferred, but will consider those who are currently enrolled in a higher education program, have completed at least 45 credits with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and have experience tutoring or teaching
· Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, technology, and time management skills
· Must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and strong interest working with, educationally and economically disadvantaged students
· Ability to drive, possession of a valid driver’s license and successfully pass MVR check
Primary Responsibilities
· Assist Project Coordinator with site visits to local high schools as assigned
· Provide tutoring/assistance to project participants in-person or via Zoom or Teams
· Provide individualized instruction in one‐on‐one and group settings
· Follow and enforce ICC and Upward Bound policies and procedures
· Monitor student grades and progress
· Maintain accurate documentation, such as attendance data for each tutoring session
· Maintain a professional attitude about matters such as class standards, grades, and student complaints
· Serve as a positive role model for all Upward Bound participants
· Perform other duties as assigned
