Independence Community College (ICC) seeks applications for 3 Summer Resident Assistants for the Upward Bound Program positions. Upward Bound is funded 100% by the U.S. Department of Education.
Position Summary
Resident Assistants (RAs) live in the residence hall with the Upward Bound participants (local high school students) and report to the Head RA and all Upward Bound staff. This is a seasonal overnight position beginning Tuesday May 20th and ending Thursday June 26th. Housing and meals costs for the RAs are covered by the Upward Bound program while they are working on campus. RAs oversee the students during meals, between classes, during activities, and whilst in the dorms. They also assist the Activities Assistant (AA) in coordinating all housing-related activities, serving as positive role models, supervise, set up and provide leadership in implementing evening activities. The Resident Assistants are not required to attend the end-of-program trip.
Compensation
$2,500 less taxes
Qualifications
· Associate degree preferred, but will consider current degree-seeking students with at least one-year relevant experience
· Must have a valid driver’s license
· Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
· Must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and strong interest working with, educationally and economically disadvantaged students
· Prefer a grade point average of 3.0 or above
· Prefer a person with background similar to that of target population
Primary Responsibilities
· Attend resident assistant training in person on 05/20-05/22 and regular staff meeting during the summer program as scheduled
· Reside in the residence hall and respond to emergencies as necessary. RA staff will move into the dorms before the students do (move in date TBD). Final checkout is after everything is cleaned up and put away and the last student leaves on 06/26
· Coordinate weekly check-in and check-out procedures
· Take part in weekly rotation of night supervision
· Maintain and enforce curfews and conduct room checks as needed
· Monitor dinner and additional meals if necessary
· Follow and enforce ICC and Upward Bound policies and procedures
· Supervise and engage with participants
· Work closely with the Head RA, Upward Bound staff, and Activities Assistant to execute and supervise all recreational, educational, and cultural activities
· Travel with Upward Bound staff and participants and transport participants to and from appointments and activities as needed
· Maintain accurate documentation
· Serve as a positive role model for all Upward Bound participants
· Perform other duties as assigned

· The ability to effectively learn new computer programs and applications as necessary; the ability to effectively troubleshoot changing computer software issues

· Provide own transportation to and from campus, and appropriate licensing to operate college vehicles
