QUALIFICATIONS (partial list):
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- FBI and BCI background checks are required.
- Hold or be qualified to obtain an Ohio State Board of Education Educational Aide Permit and Substitute Teaching License (BA or non-BA).
- Ability to learn skills appropriate for the position.
- Demonstrated maturity and the ability to work with students with special needs
DESCRIPTION: An instructional assistant supports students in meeting their educational goals under the supervision of the classroom teacher; performs a variety of educational and support services to help achieve productive learning experiences; provides guidance and encouragement to help students pursue their intellectual, social, and emotional potentials; promotes the inclusion of students with disabilities into regular classrooms and school activities; recognizes each professional contact as an opportunity to promote a positive impression of the educational service center. Serves as the substitute teacher in the absence of the teacher.
The classroom program is designed to serve elementary students for whom communication is a high need and applies to low-incidence disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our goal is to help each student develop skills that will allow him/her to more fully participate in school, community, and family activities; to communicate needs and ideas; to learn; to develop relationships; and to express themselves as individuals.
The classroom team includes an Intervention Specialist, Instructional Assistants, and built-in support from Occupational and Speech Therapists and a Behavior Consultant Specialist.
LOCATION: Independence Education Center, 06950 Independence Road, Defiance, Ohio
CONTRACT: Per the 2025-26 school calendar
SALARY: Per salary schedule based on experience (BA Teacher, Step 1 due to requirements of the position)
