What are the responsibilities and job description for the VAN DRIVER position at Independence Health System?
The Van Driver for Caregivers of Southwestern PA will plan, organize, and provide transportation to clients of the agency, as well as assume responsibility for scheduling vehicle maintenance, maintaining accurate transportation records, perform courier duties as well as ensuring that program supplies are maintained.
1. Coordinate daily transportation schedules with Supervisor and other drivers
2. Transport Clients to program facility and home driving company van or bus in a safe and timely manner
3. Insure safety of clients at all times during transportation on and off the van
4. Document incidents and accidents as required per policy and procedure, following protocol
5. Interact with clients in an appropriate and professional manner
6. Comply with OSHA standards
“Ability to perform the Essential Functions on the Physical Conditions chart; and the ability to perform the Essential Functions on the Working Conditions chart (see attached charts)”
1. Follow protocol for completing routine checklist for vehicles and maintain proper maintenance schedule
2. Insure all safety equipment is in good working order.
3. Assist with daily errands as supervised by manager of department
4. Perform safety walk-around inspection prior and end of shift
5. Assist in arranging for maintenance on vehicles
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Driving larger vehicles
- Customer service skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word
- Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
- Sound judgment, problem solving skills, strong oral and written communication skills, ability to follow directions from other team members; works independently assigned duties
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments
Preferred Qualifications
- Commercial Driver’s License.
License, Certification & Clearances
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License (if out of state hire current Department of Motor Vehicle record report required and obtain PA Current Driver License within 30 days of hire).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association program.
- Act 33 Clearance with renewal
- Act 34 Clearance with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
- Child mandated court Reporting Training within 30 days of hire or transfer
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).
- Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health locations.
