Purpose of the Position
The primary purpose of this role is to support licensed staff by providing direct resident care and performing medication aide and nurse aide functions. This includes, but is not limited to, administration of medication as directed, as well as care for personal needs and comfort of residents under the supervision of a nurse. The care is in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as well as Independence House policy and procedure, ethical statement, and resident rights.
Key Responsibilities
Duty 1: Resident Care
Deliver direct resident care and room preparation as directed by nursing staff to address resident needs and safety. Ensure knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the needs of residents served on their neighborhood. Facilitate identification and reporting of changes in resident condition or behavior.
Duty 2: Transportation and Appointments
Arrange appointments and transportation, filling out paperwork for residents regarding transportation and doctor appointments. Disburse information to residents and input charges and resident information into clinical software under the direction of a nurse.
Duty 3: Service Excellence
Display service excellence as evidenced by practicing the mission, vision, and values of the organization to promote resident satisfaction. Comply with organizational policies, procedures, and practices to ensure quality job performance and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency
Current certification, State of Ohio Nurse Aide Registry
Medication Aide certificate
Corrected vision and hearing in the normal range
Excellent communication skills to perform daily tasks
Preferred Qualifications
Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the needs of residents served on their neighborhood
Basic knowledge of the principles related to the aging adult and problems associated with aging
Able to assess data reflective of the resident status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each resident's needs
Physical Demands
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, sitting, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and standing. The associate will be required to lift 50 pounds or more, including lifting above the shoulder. This position is classified at risk for possible occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens (HBV, HIV etc).
