Intervention Specialist (Moderate to Intensive) - High School
Job Description
The Intervention Specialist (Moderate to Intensive) is a full-time, certified teaching position reporting to the Building Principal. This educator is responsible for designing and delivering specialized instruction to high school students with moderate to intensive disabilities, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and district requirements. The role includes developing and managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), providing direct, individualized instruction, collaborating with school staff and outside agencies, and implementing strategies that support student independence, functional skill development, and academic progress in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs for students with significant learning and developmental needs
- Provide direct, individualized instruction in functional academics, life skills, and vocational training
- Adapt and modify curriculum to meet each student's learning level and needs
- Collaborate with general education staff, paraprofessionals, and related service providers
- Support inclusion when appropriate and foster transitions between settings
- Collect and analyze data to inform instructional decisions and track student progress
- Ensure compliance with IDEA and state special education laws
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team planning
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student performance and services
- Communicate regularly with families and external support agencies
- Supervise and coordinate support staff in classroom settings
- Promote student safety, independence, and skill acquisition across all domains
- Assist with behavior intervention planning and implementation
- Perform required duties such as lunch, bus, or hallway supervision as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university
- Valid State of Ohio teaching license with Moderate to Intensive Intervention Specialist certification
- Deep understanding of IEP development, functional behavior analysis, and life skills instruction
- Experience with assistive technology and augmentative communication tools
- Strong collaboration, communication, and case management skills
- Knowledge of community resources and transition planning
- Training or experience in supporting students with physical, cognitive, and behavioral needs
