Reporting to the Director of Education, the Teen and Leadership Programs Coordinator is vital to Independence Seaport Museum's education team. The primary tasks are managing the River Ambassadors program, assisting with the SAILOR (Science and Arts Innovative Learning on the River) boat-building program, and co-developing a suite of leadership programming for teens, educators, and adults. With the Director of Education, they will also ensure proper evaluation of these programs and offerings. The Teen and Leadership Programs Coordinator will be someone who has a varied tool-kit and is looking to co-build with the Director of Education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the relevant fields (history, science, mathematics, or education). Equivalent experience in informal education, program development, or in the trades accepted.
  • A minimum of two years' experience teaching in a museum or trades setting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing others particularly teens.
  • Understanding of formal high school programming and curriculum.
  • Ability and willingness to engage with the public.
  • Flexibility, patience, and strong attention to detail; a good sense of humor and a friendly, reliable team player.
  • Excellent communication abilities, including customer service and phone and email manner.
  • Ability to break down complex subjects and topics for general audiences, including teens and adults required.
  • Can work both independently and collaboratively with Seaport Museum staff and collaborators.
  • Cultural competency for working with diverse audiences and stakeholders; ability to form and maintain community relationships.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of history, science, or math fields and leadership principles; exposure to or experience in trades or carpentry
  • Upon hiring, a PA Child Abuse History Clearance and State Criminal Record Check are required.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Fully vaccinated is defined as at least two weeks after your final dose. Medical and religious exemptions will apply.

Duties:

  • Lead the Museum's River Ambassadors summer and school year programming.
  • Manager and monitor the Ambassadors, their projects, and their scheduling.
  • Lead leadership programs for teen audiences and for adults or special groups.
  • Develop and evaluate leadership resources for educators, students, and adults.
  • Assemble lesson plans from leadership programs to be taught in conjunction with school lessons or other museum programs.
  • Assist the Workshop on the Water with the SAILOR boat-building program for high school students.
  • With the Director of Education, gather and disseminate data to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate with Workshop on the Water, Curatorial, and other departments for programming content and logistics.
  • Gather, maintain, and monitor inventory of supplies needed for programming regularly.
  • Maintain calm, positive, and organized atmosphere using classroom management skills.
  • Occasionally provide off-site programming at fairs, festivals, outreach programs, and conferences.
  • Occasionally lead school or tour groups in the museum and assist with the department's public programming.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
