East End Disability Associates Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides services and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). EEDA is hiring full-time non-exempt Recreation / Activity Specialist for our Residential Programs. This exciting new opportunity will focus on assisting our Residential Individuals to increase independent living and socialization through participation in person centered planned activities within the communities where the people we support live and in the homes they reside in and assist them in maintaining a rich social, physically healthy and active lifestyle. Our locations include Riverhead, Manorville, Wading River, Rocky Point, Southampton, and Jamesport.
Hourly rate : $19.50-$20.50 (higher rate based on completed certifications)
Schedule : Flexibility required based on needs of program. Primarily 3-9 pm Tuesday - Friday and one weekend 8-hour shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Ability to research local websites and community information postings to identify appropriate activities for the Residential Individuals to participate in and transport and supervise those individuals.
Develop monthly activities calendar for all assigned homes.
To train Residential DSP's on components of successful community outings.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to teach and provide feedback to staff, excellent skills in providing timely follow-up and feedback from phone and email communications.
Will have friendly disposition, patience, good interpersonal skills, computer skills, and must be flexible.
Must conduct him / herself in a professional manner as a representative of EEDA.
Model appropriate respectful interactions with the people supported by EEDA.
Ability to respond quickly to phone calls, texts or emails regarding requests and expectations from supervisors.
Transporting Individuals to and from Day Program Activities when needed.
Assisting Individuals with personal care when necessary.
Creating meaningful activities for the Residential Individuals to participate in that are person centered and promote a healthy lifestyle.
Work cooperatively with Residential Managers to ensure appropriate funds are disbursed when necessary for participation in various activities and ensure proper receipts are returned to Program Managers.
Attend all mandatory trainings sessions including new hire orientation, Defensive Driving, First Aid, CPR, program specific training, and annual trainings.
Obtain SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) and AMAP (Approved Medication Administration Personnel).
Complete all necessary documentation, which includes daily records; Medication Records (if AMAP); Incident Reports, Seizure Reports and Behavioral Records when needed; and any necessary correspondence.
Correspond as needed with other program staff, family members, consultant staff (e.g., BISs, RNs, Nutritionists, etc.).
Any additional responsibilities for the successful operation of the program.
Requirements
Must have a high school or equivalent diploma.
Must have at least 2 years' experience as a DSP in the field.
Medication administration certification (AMAP).
CPR and First Aid certification
SCIP R certification including restrictive techniques
Excellent training, coaching and communication skills are required.
Must be an EEDA certified driver and maintain a valid NYS Driver's license.
Travel is required; employees must have reliable transportation available.
Existing employee that has been in good standing with the agency and employed for a minimum of 90 days
