Number 1 priority : Set-up time reduction and machine up-time are the main priorities of this role.
Job Responsibilities :
- Responsible for ensuring production commitments are met and compliant with all policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Responsible for the safety, quality, and performance of those working in the machine shop.
- Responsible for directing machine shop operations & material.
- Participate in daily shift communication meetings to discuss issues and priorities with prior and following shifts.
- Lead set-ups to completion utilizing machine operators and other resources to get the job done in the shortest amount of time possible.
- After 48 hours (2 days) you need to take charge of the set-up and finish it with or without them.
- Kit jobs on carts (Tools, Fixtures, and Gauges). At least next 2 jobs on shelf / cart.
- Update set-up sheets (if necessary) in set-up binder before teardowns.
- Troubleshoot machine issues as needed to keep down-time to a minimum.
- Perform visual part check, at each work center, at least 2 times per shift : part mark, caps, saw burrs, inside burrs, thread depth, and other cosmetic issues, etc.
- Review machine operator stats for your area of responsibility.
- Run the machines when machine operators are absent when time allows.
- Check cycle-times on machines daily.
- Make improvements to set-ups and cycle-times.
- Perform machine operator training and hourly checks as needed.
- Move people to priority machines and keep them staffed.
- Determine machine operators’ capabilities using the 3, 6, 9, 11-week evaluation sheets prior to being hired.
- Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly checks on are being performed on the machines.
- Ensure weekly / Monthly machine PM's are being performed.
- Identify drill / tapping heads that need repaired and coordinate with maintenance.
- Identify pumps and motors that need repaired or replaced due to leaks or bearing issues and coordinate with maintenance.
- Ensure tools are in shadow boards of each toolbox.
- You will be evaluated based on how well your team performs.
- Handle other assignments as determined by management.
Qualifications :
Must have a strong understanding of machining fundamentals and machine shop best practices.

Required Education : High school diploma or GED. Bachelor Degree preferred.
