Position Summary
The Actuarial Intern will work closely with the Director of Actuarial Services and Medical Economics team to gain hands-on actuarial experience in the areas of Medicaid, Long-Term Care, and Medicare Advantage. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply analytical skills, enhance technical proficiency, and contribute to critical projects within the actuarial team at ILS.
Essential Functions
- Collect and analyze health care claims and enrollment data to improve decision making, using statistical analysis to identify patterns, correlations, and actionable results.
- Assist in developing and maintaining actuarial models to support reserving, financial projections, and trend analysis.
- Contribute to the development and validation of assumptions used in actuarial modeling relating to capitation rates, risk scores, risk pool reconciliation, claim lags, and loss ratios for Medicaid and Medicare populations.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports and documentation.
- Communicate and present findings and recommendations to the actuarial team and other stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with experience using Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge or interest in health insurance, Medicaid, Long-Term Care, and Medicare.
- Ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculate financial outcomes.
- Professional attitude and appearance.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team.
