Position Summary
The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for receiving merchandise from all vendors, checks for expiration dates, dented cans, or damaged products. Checks order for accuracy and store as needed in dry, refrigerator or freezer, as necessary. Rotates merchandise according to the FIFO rule. Helps in the preparation of foods to the specifications of the client and/or diet. Ensures proper food service temperature as required by the Florida Department of Health. Assists cooks during the food assembly process. Adhere to recipes as written. Cleans and maintains kitchen clean after production has ended. Communicate with Kitchen Supervisor to order ingredients and spices as needed in a timely manner.
Essential Functions
- Adjust food items to accommodate clients/guests with allergies or specific diets concerns.
- Operates various kitchen appliances, such as blender, oven, grill, stand mixer, etc.
- Portions, arranges, and garnishes food based on recipes and/ or client preferences/allergies.
- Prepares any necessary sauces or accompaniments before meal service begins/or delivery.
- Communicates with Kitchen Supervisor about how to improve meal service.
- Alters dishes based on consumer suggestions or requirements.
- Cleans food preparation areas as determined by company policies and Health Department Regulations
- Clean and sanitize kitchen.
- Keep inventory, storage organized.
- Keep food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices.
- Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, piercing them with utensils and taking food temperature.
- Observe weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment by cooks.
- Portion, arrange, and garnish food.
- Check all kitchen equipment is properly working.
- Substitute for or assist cooks during emergencies or rush periods or as needed.
- Clean and sanitize working area before start work and after finishing work.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Required Skills
Be flexible with the schedule for any unforeseen emergencies/circumstances.
Arrive on time daily following scheduled hours.
