Primary Function
The Service / Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of durable medical equipment (DME). This includes manual wheelchairs, tilt-in-space wheelchairs, lift chairs, hospital beds, scooters, and consumer power wheelchairs (Group 2).
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to service calls and perform repairs in the office or in the field.
- Diagnose and resolve equipment issues, including troubleshooting over the phone when possible.
- Conduct repairs on rental fleet equipment and customer-purchased items.
- Communicate with manufacturers to resolve repair or troubleshooting issues.
- Process return authorizations (RAs) and warranty replacements for defective items.
- Maintain an organized inventory of parts, batteries, and stock items needed for the service department.
- Track and manage warranty claims, ensuring timely and accurate replacements.
- Attend manufacturer repair training to stay current with equipment updates and best practices.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with patients and referral sources.
- Assist in completing work orders, including researching components, preparing quotes, and coordinating with insurance providers.
