Independent Newsmedia is looking for an education solutions reporter to cover K-12 and higher education in Arizona.
This is a two-year position funded through the Arizona Community Collaborative : Education Solutions Journalism Grant Program administered by the Arizona Local News Foundation.
We are seeking an experienced multimedia journalist to tell meaningful, solutions-oriented stories about education challenges, programs and options.
This person will produce an average of at least 10 original stories per month in accordance with the content mission of providing new reporting not otherwise taking place in the area of education solutions, which is defined as the continuum of education choices, options, programs, innovations and alternatives throughout Arizona for all ages, in rural and urban areas with a focus on Maricopa County.
Areas to consider include, but are not limited to : Economic Damage : Students are ill-prepared to enter a work force demanding specific skills and knowledge. 2. Teacher Shortage : Lack of resources forces teachers to leave the state or to abandon teaching altogether. 3. Education Disparity : Lack of funding generally harms children worse in economically challenged districts. 4. Mental Health : Students are finding it difficult to cope with the obstacles and challenges caused by social media in addition to other stressors.
