Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive individual to join our team as a Communications Project Associate. This role focuses on project management and operational support for the Communications team, ensuring timely execution of communications initiatives. The associate will create and track project timelines, facilitate team coordination, develop meeting agendas, and help ensure team members have the necessary resources to deliver on their tasks. Additionally, this role will support Independent Sector's National Summit and provide basic communications support, such as writing content and collaborating with freelancers. Experience with WordPress for website updates is preferred but not required. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Communications. IS operates in a hybrid model (3 days in the office/2 days remote)

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and maintain project timelines for communications initiatives to ensure timely completion.
  • Create meeting agendas and track action items for communications team meetings.
  • Monitor project progress and support team members in meeting deadlines by providing necessary coordination.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of communications efforts related to Independent Sector's National Summit.
  • Collaborate with freelancers and other external partners to ensure deliverables meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Provide basic communications support, including writing web posts and content, as requested.
  • Update the Independent Sector website with content as needed (WordPress experience preferred but not required).
  • Maintain communications calendars and track key deadlines.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field plus 1-3 years of experience in project management, communications, marketing, or a related role. PMP certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain project tracking systems to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Experience developing meeting agendas, taking notes, and ensuring follow-up on action items.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital best practices.
  • Experience collaborating with freelancers and external vendors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic knowledge of WordPress or willingness to learn (preferred but not required).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in nonprofit sector issues, advocacy, and policy.
  • Ability to embed IS'values in to day to day work.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

The work environment is a typical office setting, with a usually quiet noise level. Up to 5% travel may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check. 

Salary : $53,000 - $65,000
