JOB SUMMARY

Parent Aides are professionally trained individuals who provide supervision between children in NH’s child welfare system and their biological parents. Parent Aides become role models to parents who need help parenting their children and dealing with life's daily challenges.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work directly with children, family, and foster parents to provide supervised visitation services.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competence in working with families from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic levels, and lifestyles.
  • Provide support and encouragement to biological parent(s) whose children are in foster care.
  • Teach biological parent(s) about their child(ren)’s specific developmental needs, as directed.
  • Provide transportation and supervision services for child(ren).
  • Provide opportunities for community-based therapeutic recreation.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date record keeping.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • An Associate Degree is required

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience working with children and families
  • Experience in Domestic Violence Effects on children/family
  • Experience in Substance Abuse – Identifying triggers of relapse, and effects of drug abuse on children/family
  • Behavioral Health – triggers for depression and anxiety
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and families
