What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician (Family Practice) or (Internal Medicine) position at Indian Health Service?
This position will serve as a Physician (Family Practice) or (Internal Medicine) at the Pawnee Indian Health Center located in Pawnee, OK. The incumbent will provide continuous patient care to a broad range in patient age groups. The position is under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director of the Pawnee Indian Health Center.
This position has no promotion potential and will be filled at either the GS-13 or GS-14 grade level with no promotion potential for either grade.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Graduate Training Waiting Period: The hiring manager/selecting official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are expected to complete graduate training (internship, residency, or fellowship program) within 9 months of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. The eligibility date is established based on the date of application and not the closing date of the announcement or any cut-off date used for certificates of eligible candidates.
Applicants who have not completed their graduate training program requirements (but who are within the established timeframe for qualifying) must submit documentation from an appropriate official affiliated with the professional program that attests to the applicable timeframe for completion of the professional program.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. Your degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Physician License: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Selective Placement Factor (SPF): Applicants applying in a specialty must meet one of the following as an approved agency-wide selective factor. This is part of the minimum requirements to qualify for the position. Applicants who do not meet a SPF will be ineligible for selection.
OR
Completion of three (3) years of graduate training (internship, residency or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled;
OR
A combination of experience and equivalent graduate training (internship, residency, or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled that when combined total at least three (3) years.
GS-14: Applicants must have at least four (4) years of equivalent experience in the specialty of the position to be filled;
OR
Completion of four (4) years of graduate training (internship, residency or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled;
OR
A combination of experience and equivalent graduate training (internship, residency, or fellowship program) in the specialty of the position to be filled that when combined total at least four (4) years.
NOTE: Candidates can apply within nine (9) months of meeting the residency program requirements. However, evidence of meeting the basic requirements and minimum qualifications must be provided and verified prior to entrance on duty.
