The incumbent will provide intensive therapeutic services, consultation, and support to student patients at the Indian Boarding School in substance abuse, addictions, and co-occurring disorders (prevention, treatment, and aftercare). The position is located at the Western Oregon Service Unit (WOSU), Salem Oregon.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Social Work Series, 0185 Degree: Social Work:
Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must meet the following;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: provides direct clinical services in area of substance abuse and co-occurring disorders (prevention, treatment, and aftercare) based on professional knowledge of practices in the areas of treatment, prevention and aftercare therapy. Provides crisis intervention for patients, conducts assessments
and screenings. Provides strategic interventions, interviewing techniques and crisis counseling for patients and families. OR successfully completed three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree. OR a combination of education and specialized experience as defined in the vacancy announcement that when combined, fully meets the minimum qualifications for this position.
Selective Placement Factor:
This position requires a current, unrestricted U.S. State license as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW). Please provide a copy of your license with your application.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Responsibilities:
- Assess the evaluates patients using a student/patient/family-centered approach for needs such as financial assistance, discharge planning/coordination, long-term care placement, and other psychosocial concerns related to health care. Develops intervention based on above need assessment and exercise mature professional judgement in consultation with the supervisory social worker in providing problem-focused, culturally appropriate care.
- Participates and when appropriate takes a leadership role in assessing community human service needs. Works with community members and human resources providers to develop approaches to addressing the needs.
- Assists in monitoring and reviewing services for quality and appropriateness of care. Assists in developing as needed appropriate services to address patient and family psychosocial needs. Prepares reports as requested on quality improvement activities.
