What are the responsibilities and job description for the Suicide Prevention Coordinator (Social Worker) position at Indian Health Service?
This position serves as a Social Worker who will be considered the Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Pine Ridge Service Unit in Pine Ridge, SD. The incumbent will develop, implement, monitor and evaluate suicide prevention activities through collaboration with tribal government, federal government and other community programs. The position reports to the Behavioral Health Director.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Degree: A master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Plans, coordinates and evaluates a comprehensive suicide prevention program plan for a wide range and all phases of services, including preventative, institutional, outreach, rehabilitative, and community based services; plans programs and coordinates mental health care services in support of department goals; monitors compliance and identify area of need for improved efficiency, effectiveness and qualify of mental health services; makes recommendation for allocation of resources for provision of services for behavioral health issues; conducting quality assurance program for mental health care services.
Selective Placement Factor:
A current, unrestricted U.S. license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of a Suicide Prevention Program.
- Provides clinical services including suicide risk assessments and screenings, emergency and crisis intervention.
- Monitor and evaluate suicide data for investigation, reports and quality assurance performance improvement projects/programs.
- Coordinate care for suicidal risk patients and collaborates with partner facilities and agencies to improve the coordination of care.
- Engage with tribal and community partners, schools, agencies and other service providers to meet patient needs.
- Participates in strategic planning to draft and coordinate interagency agreements.
