What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor, High School Equivalency Diploma position at Indian Hills Community College?
Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, this position provides instruction to High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) students. Classes will include basic and intermediate level Math, Social Studies and Language Arts. This instructor will assist the director with coordinating HSED programming throughout the IHCC district through development of course curriculum, programming options and by providing professional development to other instructors.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Two years teaching experience required, Secondary Education Certification preferred.

Ability to instruct students from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to interact effectively with people on phone, via email, and in person.

Ability to work with people is essential.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Work Performed:
Assist students with HSED coursework in a variety of formats including lecture classes, online learning and individual instruction.

Plan and participate in student orientation and assessment.

Collaborate with program staff on curriculum development.

Provide staff development related to instruction, data entry and assessment.

Assist with completion of State of Iowa Adult Education program metrics.

Assist with program budgeting and grant reporting for State of Iowa Adult Education.

Coordinate I. Pathways online learning program.

Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.

Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues.

Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
- Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
