What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical First Assistant position at Indian Lake Surgery Center?
Indian Lake Surgery Center is a primarily orthopedic ASC located north Nashville in the growing town of Hendersonville, We are looking for a Surgical First Assistant with the ability to assist and/or scrub total joint replacements.
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in providing care of the surgical patient in the O.R. suite
Duties Of The Job:
- To utilize specialized knowledge of surgical techniques while giving direct and indirect patient care.
- Demonstrates and adheres to principles of aseptic techniques.
- Knowledgeable of all basic set-ups for surgical procedures.
- Assists in ensuring patient safety.
- To perform the tasks of the “scrub” role.
- Scrubs, gowns, and gloves members of surgical team following aseptic techniques.
- Assists in set up of operating room with all necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assists with the preparation, transportation, and monitoring of patients.
- Maintains sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
- Performs room clean up following procedures, as well as general housekeeping duties.
- Provides assistance in emergency situations as directed.
- Assists with patient positioning.
- Assists with shaving and marking.
- Applies and removes casts/splints/braces
- Applies and removes dressings/packings
- Cut suture.
- Drape patient.
- Suction and/or sponge field.
- Apply electro-cautery to instrument held by surgeon.
- Remove suture under direction.
- Cauterizing wounds and vessels
- Packing sponges in body
- Positioning patient to maintain circulation and access for surgeon
- Placing clamps and sutures
- Closing skin with adhesives, sutures or staples etc.
- Applying direct pressure on veins and tissue
- Performing or aiding in patient suction, drainage and irrigation
- Hemostasis: The stopping of excess bleeding and blood flow
- Immobilizing patients on the operating table
- To function efficiently as a member of the surgical team.
- Provides assistance to team members, physicians, and anesthesia personnel as needed (i.e. reliability, initiative, work relations, training needs).
- Reviews physicians’ preference cards and updates as needed.
- Assists with stocking, preparation, and waste management of supplies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $44.00 per hour
