- Translate written documents as needed.
- Serve as the interpreter for parent/teacher conferences, telephone calls and with building directed communications and as needed.
- Ability to read, write and speak fluently in both English and Russian.
- Assist in the orientation of parents and students to school and community life.
- Provide home visits as needed to explain school programs and reinforce the positive school environment with parents.
- Observe student behavior on home visits to identify any issues that might influence student school behavior and achievement.
- Assist with the implementation of behavioral intervention and/or support plans for students.
- Monitor lunchroom and playground supervision, bus duty and detention as needed.
- Provide clerical assistance in Russian to building staff as needed.
- Assist with family Literacy activities and students with job-related and/or community-based activities.
- Provide support for students with in-class primary language support.
- Use personal computer and general office equipment. Demonstrate proficiency using the technology and computer-based programs provided by the District. Use these programs to effectively manage and organize files, communication, records and databases.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:
Qualifications: To be considered for a position as a teacher assistant, applicants MUST have an NCLB paraprofessional license, substitute license or teaching license.
For those without the above, applicants must meet at least one of the four requirements:
1. 60 semester hours of college-level credit;
2. Completed paraprofessional training program approved by ISBE or ICCB;
3. Passed ETS ParaPro assessment (460 or higher); or 4. Passed WorkKeys assessments (Applied Mathematics
4, Reading for Information-4, Writing/Business Writing-3, and Acceptable on Instructional Support Inventory).
