JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, this position fosters a community environment that supports the academic enhancement, personal growth, and development of students. Assist with program fieldtrips and functions. Responsibilities include: assisting with program field trips and functions. Helping students and parents complete test registrations, college admissions applications, and the FASFA (Federal Application for Student Financial Aid) forms. Providing tutoring support for high school students in subjects such as math, English, or other school subjects. Collecting program data for monitoring and evaluation purposes. Working with high school students to help them understand key concepts, particularly those taught in the classroom. Assisting students with classwork, homework and study skills. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise students’ daily schedules, including recreational activities, field trips, cultural trips, and evening activities, ensuring general safety and compliance with program rules.
- Create a community environment conducive to the academic enhancement, personal growth, and development of students;
- Assist with daytime and evening programs, as needed
- Occasionally has responsibilities for monitoring students in the evening hours and/or overnight to ensure general safety and compliance of program rules.
- Act as a referral agent to help students access all campus facilities and services.
- Remain sensitive to subtle mood changes and erratic behavior exhibited by students.
- Monitor students during classes.
- Assist in identifying student needs and interests.
- Coordinate and oversee students during planned activities.
- Assist with check-in registration and check-out procedures.
- Help maintain an efficient and effective operation.
- Assist with physical training, team sports, and leisure activities.
- Handle minor problems and refer more significant issues to the appropriate staff.
- Assist other program staff as needed.
- Flexible hours may be required.
- Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include
- Enrolled in a post-secondary institution and in good standing with the college and must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
- (2) Recommendation letters, preferred
- Ability to supervise and advise students participating in the IRSC associated grant program;
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with students, parents, personnel, and the public;
- Possess reasoning skills and be relied upon to utilize good judgement on issues relating to health and safety;
- Previous experience in working with disadvantaged and underrepresented student populations is preferred
- Must have demonstrated ability in working with a diverse group of students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
