JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction, this position ensures that high school students receive the support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. The role combines counseling, mentoring, advocacy, and administrative skills to address the diverse needs of students. Key responsibilities include planning and providing support services, collaborating with faculty, engaging with students, developing student skills, utilizing data and communicating with Parents. This role is committed to fostering student growth and well-being.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Academic Support: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to identify students who may be struggling academically and develop personalized intervention plans. Offer study skill strategies and academic resources to help students improve their performance in school. Monitor students working on credit recovery. Oversee student support room.
- Individual Mentoring: Provide one-on-one mentoring sessions to students to address academic and social emotional issues. Assist students in setting and achieving academic goals, managing stress, resolving conflicts, building resiliency, and making informed decisions about their education and future. Advocate for the needs of students within the school community and beyond. Serve as a liaison between students, teachers, administrators, and parents to address concerns, develop support plans, and promote a positive school culture.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, mentoring sessions, academic progress, and intervention plans. Use data to track student outcomes, identify trends, and evaluate the effectiveness of support services. Complies with all reporting deadlines.
- Professional Development: Stay informed about best practices in student support services, counseling techniques, adolescent development, and relevant educational policies. Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge base.
- Other Duties: Provide support to stakeholders school wide. This may include front desk coverage, preparing reports, and other general office tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or Student Services (preferred) or an Associate’s degree in a Human Services field with 3 years or more experience in a related field.
- Proficient use of technology applications and student information systems.
- Microsoft office suite, FOCUS, Adobe, etc.
- Understanding of varied student learning needs and the State/Federal laws protecting them; (i.e. Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners)
- Ability to function effectively with multiple priorities.
- Ability to be well organized and demonstrate effective time management.
- Strong initiative to promote student success.
- Flexibility and creativity in problem solving.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, be self-motivated, and work effectively on a team.
- Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Requires occasional evening, weekend or other flexible scheduling of duties as specified by the Clark Advanced Learning Center’s Executive Director/Principal or designee.
**Please note: This is a part-time position. The school's normal operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM. Scheduled days and hours may rotate or fluctuate based on the needs of the school.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
