What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Technician, 3rd Shift position at Indiana Automotive Fasteners?
The Wastewater Treatment Operator reports to the surface treatment Team Leader. The Team member is responsible for the processes, in accordance with federal and state requirements. This position requires capability of learning the principles associated with ISO 14000, monitoring the WWT system, maintaining environmental record, operates wastewater treatment, and performing routine and preventative maintenance. The Team Member must follow all safety and work policy requirements. Each Team Member must be in compliance with quality and delivery expectations in order to maintain and/or reduce cost.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – include the following
- Must have regular and predictable attendance and the ability to work overtime and Saturdays
- Other duties may be assigned
- Ability to operate waste treatment
- Ability to inspect all equipment and instrumentation daily
- Ability to clean, inspect, and calibrate probe against a known standard as scheduled
- Routinely checks chemical level of all feed tanks and drums in wastewater
- Clean filter presses as needed (usually 1-2 times per shift minimum)
- Regularly check CR 6 tank for complete chemical treatment
- Regularly check clarifier for setting characteristics
- Monitor incoming wastewater for high concentrations and for unusual upsets
- Maintain records on all chemical additions, calibrations, significant parameters, and reactive/preventative maintenance
- Sample effluent discharge waters per Indiana Department of Environmental Management Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment Permit
- Helps develop improvements at Wastewater Treatment
- Responsible for unloading chemicals, deliveries, and loading waste to outside vendors
- Responsible for the safe handling, documentation, and the scheduling of wastewater and process waste
- Initiate the 4S practices in the wastewater treatment department
- Performs assigned tasks from the wastewater treatment technician
- Must be a Certified Wastewater Team Member
- Must be Hazmat Certified (will need to obtain hazmat physical)

Qualification/ Requirement
- Six months of related experience and or training, one- year certificate from a college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Will undergo a Hazmat Physical
- Troubleshooting experience (preferred)
- Good communication
- Organization and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work as a team
- Ability to lift container up to 25lbs (repetitively) to 100lbs (occasionally)
- Ability to stand for extended periods, use of hands, walk, bend, and or twist
- Ability to work around different types of chemicals such as zinc, caustic, acid, etc
- Ability to work 12 hours (including Saturdays and Sundays)

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
