The Biomedical Equipment Technician’s role is to provide support in the areas of asset and equipment maintenance, calibration, installation, and production/process controls in accordance with UNOS, OPTN, CLIA, FDA, AATB and Indiana Donor Network guidelines, policies and regulations. This role supports the overall quality program and serves as a liaison between the supply chain team and clinical departments.
This is a new role within the organization. We are looking for someone with the skill and ability to assess the current state of clinical assets and serve as a clinical asset and equipment expert.
Responsibilities include:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in asset management, biomedical equipment maintenance required. Five to seven years’ experience in BMET, equipment maintenance, calibration, quality assurance, or quality control preferably in an environment such as blood banking, pharmaceutical, medical devices, or a hospital required.

- Develop and implement a maintenance program, including preventative maintenance and life-cycle requirements.
- Perform equipment maintenance and repairs on all applicable machinery and tools, ensuring timely and effective resolution of maintenance needs and issues.
- Coordinate and manage external vendors for repairs or services that cannot be completed in-house, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain equipment management systems to ensure equipment repair, maintenance and calibration is conducted and documented according to all applicable requirements.
- Ensure processes are followed to achieve document control of equipment operations manuals.
- Facilitate the evaluation and purchase of new equipment.
- Support operations to ensure processes are effective, efficient and maximize productivity.
- Ensure validations, procedures, training, and communication are completed before implementation of operational change; monitor effectiveness, and take appropriate action, when necessary.
- Support management of current and relevant documents as needed for the uniformity and quality of equipment management systems in keeping with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and internal quality system.
- Lead strategies and actions identified based on quality metrics.
- Serve as a resource for the organization in healthcare technology management (HTM).
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in asset management, biomedical equipment maintenance required. Five to seven years’ experience in BMET, equipment maintenance, calibration, quality assurance, or quality control preferably in an environment such as blood banking, pharmaceutical, medical devices, or a hospital required.
In addition, the preferred candidate will have the following skills and abilities:
- Must be a self-starter who possesses expert knowledge in technical machinery, calibration, building, testing, operation, maintenance, and/or development/implementation of biomedical equipment or systems.
- Expert knowledge of standardized rules, procedures, and operations in HTM.
- Ability to use broad theoretical knowledge or advanced knowledge of highly specialized fields and their interrelationships.
- Ability to determine a course of action based on guidelines and may participate in the development/implementation of new policies/ideas in areas of responsibility.
- Interpersonal and mentoring skills necessary to interact effectively with employees.
- Ability to determine a course of action based on guidelines while also possessing the knowledge and experience to make decisions based on limited precedent.
- Exercises independent judgment within defined procedures and practices and may receive limited instruction.
- Possesses high ethical standards and values, personal integrity and honesty.
- Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
