Role & Responsibilities: The Legal Director will lead and supervise all intake, case review, and litigation efforts at INIP, managing staff and collaborating with various partners to represent and exonerate innocent individuals. The role involves strategic case development, court appearances, and promoting the organization’s mission.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a J.D. with ten years of experience, strong research, writing, and editing skills, and expertise in state or federal criminal law, particularly felony cases. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to client-centered advocacy, collaboration, diversity, and working with incarcerated individuals, and must ultimately be granted admission to the Indiana Bar.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include prior experience with an innocence organization, demonstrated commitment to wrongful conviction issues, and relevant litigation experience in post-conviction and wrongful conviction law.
